The event held on the Town seafront has been run by the Round Table for about 35 years.

Popular traditional activities including the ‘man-powered flight’ from a platform into the marina at high tide, crown and anchor on the pier, food and music.

President of the Guernsey Round Table, Mike Ozanne, said a few changes had been made this year to ensure the event retained its community focus: ‘We try to make it a lot more inclusive so for example we changed the [rubber] ducks to larger ones because of the plastic problem.

‘It’s earlier this year because the tides are the problem, finding a high tide on a Friday in the evening meant moving it back to June.

‘Although it was a bit quieter earlier on the weather has been great. The money raised will be split between the Guernsey Voluntary Service and other local charities distributed by the Round Table throughout the year,’ he said.

The programme of events included a dingy race, which saw Lady Corder taking part for the GVS team of which she is patron, a tug of war won by the Harbour Lights team beating the Guernsey Police, and a paddle board race.

Dinghy race competitor Carrie Eddie said her group of friends have taken part a few times: ‘It was a bit more rushed this year we didn’t have time to get a drink before, but we used the same tactic as last year – paddling out of the back – and it always works,’ she said.

Unsuccessful in their bid to win the man-powered flight competition were a team of bankers who fashioned their craft into the shape of a safe. Speaking before their flight team member Toby Nielsen said they were positive.

‘It’s the first time I’ve taken part, the safe took two hours to make but we’re confident. We’ve booked a table at the Mermaid [in Herm] actually,’ he said.
