The hornets were trapped by a bee-keeper near a hive on Sunday.
No nest has been located but a spokesman for Agriculture, Countryside & Land Management Services said efforts to find it would be focused in this area.
The Asian hornet is a major threat to the island’s biodiversity, pollinator insects and bee-keeping activities.
‘The public are encouraged to be vigilant and report any potential sightings,’ he said.
‘Please check any buildings, outhouses, sheds, porches etc. for nests.
‘Most of the sightings reported last year were of our native wildlife and the general public are encouraged not to kill the insects that they find.’
If a suspected hornet is sighted, people are asked to take a good quality close-up photo if possible and email it to asianhornet@gov.gg.
Please include with your sighting report the following information:
n The location.
n The direction the hornet came from and subsequently flew to;
n Your name and contact details.
Or the sighting can be logged through the free iPhone and Android recording app, Asian Hornet Watch, or by phoning ACLMS on 234567 with as much information as possible.
