She announced her decision to resign in a letter to parents.

It follows the appointment of Liz Coffey, currently the Grammar School head, to new post of executive head teacher for the two-site secondary school model approved by the States.

‘I am writing to inform you that after four immensely enjoyable and rewarding years as head teacher of Les Beaucamps High School, I have been offered the exciting opportunity of a one-year leadership secondment within the Education Office from September,’ Mrs Roughsedge said in her letter.

‘My new role will involve me working in close partnership with the new director of education to support the work of the Committee for Education, Sport & Culture and to ensure that we continue to provide the very best education for all Guernsey’s children.

‘It has been a great privilege to be head teacher of Les Beaucamps High School and an immense pleasure to see our pupils grow and develop into such confident, successful learners.

‘They leave the school well-equipped for their next steps in post-16 education or employment.

‘I know I will be leaving the school in very safe hands. We are fortunate in having newly-appointed executive head teacher Liz Coffey, excellent leadership from our senior and middle leaders and very many brilliant and committed staff.

‘I understand that some parents may have anxieties about the future but I would like to reassure you that I have every confidence in Liz Coffey’s ability to recruit an excellent head teacher to carry on the work at Les Beaucamps High School. The States of Guernsey have started the process for appointing my successor. We will, of course, update you on the outcome.

‘Please rest assured that I will be spending my remaining time implementing all our plans for this academic year and that there will be ample opportunity for a successful handover to my successor,’ she said.

Mrs Roughsedge replaced Peter Le Cheminant as head teacher in 2014.
