The show takes place again this year at St Martin’s Community Centre on Friday 10 and Saturday 11 August with the usual agricultural and horticultural classes as well as entertainment for all ages.

This year’s organising committee are looking for volunteers who are able to assist with setting up the tables for displays on the day and other small jobs.

‘We need a lot of people on the Wednesday, we’re searching for volunteers that can be from any parish,’ said Mark Weysom, committee president.

The day of events at the centre go on from 10am-6pm and there are additional equestrian events held at Rue des Huriaulx in St Andrew’s beforehand on 28 and 29 July.

Committee member Christine Guerin said the location with one entrance makes it easy for parents to keep an eye on children and the entertainment on offer provides a relaxing and affordable alternative to the other shows.

‘The South Show offers lots of fun in a safe environment, especially for the younger members of the family.

‘A few years ago saw the return of the popular Bonnie Baby contest which has been an overwhelming success.

‘This, together with our annual Fun Dog Show, Children’s Fancy Dress, Decorated Hat Competition and this year the addition of our Decorated Wellies competition are open for the whole island to join in,’ she said.

The fruit and vegetables, flowers, home baking and arts and crafts classes are for the most part open to South Show catchment area residents.
