Trevor Mahy, 65, has been battling cancer since the beginning of 2017 and has been having chemotherapy treatment every 10 days.

Overwhelmed by the help and support both he and his family have received from the doctors and nurses at the Princess Elizabeth Hospital and Bulstrode House, Mr Mahy wanted to give something back.

‘I would like to raise funds for the Guernsey Society for Cancer Relief, who over the years have helped what I believe to be thousands of people as they struggle to come to terms with what’s happening to them, when either they or a family member comes down with this dreadful illness,’ he said.

On Saturday, Mr Mahy aims to walk from the Fairy Ring at Pleinmont to the Aquarium at La Vallette, which he has named the Fairies to Fishes sponsored walk.

Along with his daughter, Marcia Bale, he intends to set off at around 8am taking the coastal path route as much as possible heading towards Vazon, Grandes Rocques, L’Ancresse along to Bordeaux, Bulwer Avenue and then into Town.

He will be taking a break at Vistas at Vazon at about 10am, where he hopes members of the Triumph Motorcycle Club will be present to encourage him on his way.

Other stops could be at Rousse kiosk and Woodies at Bordeaux.

Mr Mahy hopes that people will get involved with his walk, either by joining in, sponsoring the event, or simply giving him a wave on his way past.

‘We should have quite a few friends coming along,’ he said. ‘If you would like to join in, bring some good sunscreen, a hat and some walking shoes. Everyone should come along.’

n Sponsorship forms are available from Tribe Hair, The Mariners’ Inn and Island Lock and Safe.

n The event’s JustGiving page has already raised in excess of £560. It is at https://bit.ly/2zb4qyT.
