The GSPCA is now trying to track down the reptile’s owner.

The charity was called out to a location near Guernsey Dairy to rescue the 5ft-long animal on Friday.

It was caught and taken back to the shelter, where it was named Bailiff.

GSPCA animal collection officer Geoff George managed to bring in the animal.

‘It seems in good health and we are appealing for the owner to please call us on 257261,’ he said.

GSPCA manager Steve Byrne said the animal was now housed in one of the charity’s vivariums.

‘As a stray, Bailiff will be held at the GSPCA for 21 days and, if not claimed, we will then look to find the snake a new home like the many other reptiles in our care,’ he said.

While albino snakes are quite rare in the wild, they are bred as pets.

Mr Byrne said they thought it was likely to be a pet.

‘It is a massive thing, so it is likely that it was lost fairly recently,’ he said.

‘Otherwise something that big would have been likely to have been seen. It was right in the middle of Bailiff’s Cross Road area.’

The charity has seen a large rise in the number of reptiles over the last few years.
