Ben lands biggest prize of all – a bride
FARMER Ben Wallace proposed to his girlfriend as one of their herd won champion cow at this year’s West Show.
The couple, who run Les Padins Farm and Guernsey Lamb, met at around West Show time two years ago and find the event a meaningful one.
‘I just felt that we were going to have a good day down at the show. I thought that if we get champion cow I will get down to it, I knew we were going to win champion cow though,’ he said.
Both Mr Wallace and his fiancee, Hannah Taylor, are members of the West Show organising committee and local to the area.
‘I thought he was up to something because he was acting a bit shifty,’ she said.
The couple took home a large number of prizes in the judging including champion cow, supreme champion animal, best group of animals and several first and second in class.
Miss Taylor’s pig was awarded best in show.
‘It’s a great community event, it’s got its roots still in the agricultural side,’ said Mr Wallace.
‘We’re going to celebrate in the beer tent later, but we have to be up early in the morning to milk the cows,’ said Miss Taylor.
