Relief for many at Ladies’ College
IT WAS a sleepless night for many Ladies’ College GCSE students before they got their results.
Among them were Elise Le Breton and Marina Haynes, both 16, who had a sleepover in a bid to try to calm their nerves.
But they need not have worried.
Elise achieved four 9s and five A*s.
‘I was most nervous about maths and physics, but I got A* for both,’ she said.
‘I’m so happy.’
Marina got three 9s and five A*s, and also a C in French.
‘I’m really, really pleased with my results,’ she said.
‘And I’m just pleased I passed French.’
Nearly 97% of students achieved five 9-4 grades – the equivalent of A* to C – including English and maths.
One of the highest achieving students was Katie Connolly, 16, who achieved six A*s and four 9s.
‘It’s just amazing,’ she said.
‘I’m delighted. I opened the results in the car and started hysterically crying.
‘It’s been a long summer waiting.’
She is going on to study biology, chemistry and physics and hopes to eventually work in medicine.
Principal Ashley Clancy said she was very proud of the students.
‘It’s a big educational hurdle for them and they have done extremely well,’ she said.
All 57 girls are going on to further education, with most of them taking A-levels.
That includes Amelia Lees, 16, who is going on to study A-levels in PE and psychology, as well as either biology or English after getting good results, with a handful of A*s, As and 9s.
‘I had worked really hard at maths, because I was never that good at it, but I got an A* in the end.’
