The evening kicked off with the Guernsey Symphony Orchestra playing live on the Albert Pier, before switching to a live feed from the Albert Hall.

Every seat was filled by 7.30pm, but late-comers were happy to stand around the edges.

Among the crowds was Anne Griegg, who had travelled all the way from Australia to be able to be on the Albert Pier.

‘I was here two years ago, and I decided to plan my trip this time so I could be here,’ she said.

‘I just think it’s a really good balance, with local music and the Albert Hall.

‘It makes it pretty special and this is a beautiful spot in St Peter Port.’

Also in the audience was Frank Everett, with his partner Joy Le Page. Ms Le Page had dressed up especially, with Union Flag earrings and had worn red, white and blue.

They had been to see the Proms live at the Albert Hall eight years ago.

‘This is more friendly than the Albert Hall,’ Mr Everett said.

‘It has such good music and atmosphere.’

Ken and Pam Warwick are also regulars at the proms on the pier.

‘This is such a special evening,’ Mr Warwick said.

‘It’s like a lot of good community events in Guernsey, where everyone can just come together.’
