Access road first step to flats on King’s site
NEW flats on part of the King’s Premier Health Club site are still on the cards, after the company confirmed it would be moving its access road this month.

In 2012, Kings Property Ltd applied to build 13 apartments with underground car parking on two of the tennis courts as well as a new access road. That was rejected in 2013 due to the scale of the development, and rejected again on appeal.
But a smaller application was approved in 2016 at an open planning meeting, with 11 objections. That permission would have lapsed unless work had started by February.
Club director Steve Brehaut confirmed that part of that application – moving the access road for the club to Les Croutes – was set to start soon.
‘This will improve road safety and access in the area and demonstrates the continued major investments being made to enhance the club’s facilities and its infrastructure for the benefit of its members,’ he said.
‘This new road layout forms part of the enabling works for the future quality apartment development and associated car parking for which planning consent was granted in 2016. Detailed plans and timings for the residential development are still to be finalised.’
The club has previously said that building the apartments would create jobs in the construction industry and help generate money to improve the club’s facilities. The permission allows for a two-and-a-half storey development, with 21 car parking spaces underneath, which would look like three terraced houses.
‘Once complete, the new junction will replace our existing entrance which is situated on the crossroads with Rue a l’Or/King’s Road and is wholly inadequate,’ Mr Brehaut said.
‘The works will involve the demolition of the boundary walls fronting on to King’s Road, excavation of the immediate area and the formation of a new two-way junction with pedestrian walkways designed to the very latest standard.
‘There will need to be traffic flow restrictions at times while the works are ongoing, and we apologise for any inconvenience this may cause.’
The road will be one way from 8 to 29 October.
