Small cars to have fewer new spaces

THE number of additional small car parking spaces planned for Salerie Corner has been reduced because larger cars are using what is there now.

Traffic and Highway Services announced in August that it wanted to install 19 additional spaces along the eastern wall of the car park and south of ‘the grass hump’.

However, following a consultation, the number of additional spaces proposed for the eastern arm has been halved.

The additional spaces proposed for south of ‘the hump’ will go ahead as planned.

Subject to final measurements and marking, an additional 13 small car parking spaces in total should be available at Salerie car park.

They will be painted as soon as scheduling and weather allows, at which time the areas will be unavailable temporarily while the work is carried out.

The size of the spaces will be marked out at 3.7m long and 2.1m wide.

Drivers must park their vehicle – excluding wing mirrors – within the marked bays and not extend into the manoeuvring area or buffer zone.

Drivers who park outside the marked box will have committed an offence and risk being issued with a fixed penalty notice.
