Natalie adds west coast walk to cycle in memory of her mum

AFTER cycling around the island, Natalie Wrigley is pledging to walk around the west coast as part of a special fundraiser in memory of her mum.

This will be the sixth annual challenge or event undertaken by the 29-year-old.

The money will go towards the Friends of Frossard Children’s Ward, where Miss Wrigley’s mother – Liz Wrigley – used to work. She died in 2012 after battling with cancer and Miss Wrigley said she was keen to keep her mother’s memory alive.

‘I know her friends and family will never forget her, but we want to get people who did not know her to know about her.’

Miss Wrigley is planning to start her ride at 8am on Saturday [20/10] at the Imperial Hotel.

She estimates it will take between two and two-and-a-half hours to cycle anti-clockwise around the island. Once back at the hotel, she will then walk clockwise around the west coast and then to North Beach. She estimates that stretch will take about seven hours.

Friends and family will join her along the way.

Miss Wrigley said she had not done as much training as she would have liked.

‘I used to cycle everywhere, but then I got my driving licence three years ago and I haven’t cycled since,’ she said.

‘But I got the bike out and have been cycling for the last month and I have been walking rather than driving.’

She was hoping to raise £700 for the charity.

In the past she has organised a number of different fundraisers, including a 24-hour danceathon.
