Time to stand still at Weighbridge clock tower for months

THE Weighbridge clock tower could be stuck at midnight for several months, after the mechanism broke down.

The clockwork mechanism failed at the start of the month. The building in Town, close to North Beach and the St Julian’s Avenue Roundabout, is overseen by Guernsey Harbours.

‘The current system has broken down due to old age and the clock has been placed in the midday/midnight position until the repair has been completed,’ a harbour spokesman said.

‘A new mechanism will now have to be manufactured by specialists, and it may take several months for the parts to be made, delivered, and then installed. The current timepiece is around 20 years old, and it has lasted well until the recent failure, which occurred at the start of October 2018.’
