The 30 runs in 30 days challenge came to an end on Tuesday evening, as a group of those who signed up met at the Liberation Monument to start their final run together.

Hospice fundraising administrator Trish De Carteret was grateful to each and every one of them.

‘We have had about 190 people take part and, as of this morning, we had raised over £9,000 with more to come over the next few days,’ she said.

‘For me, I just want to say a huge thank you to everyone who takes part in one of these events because every single one of them makes a huge difference.

‘It costs £1.4m. to run the hospice each year and every penny needed comes to us from the generosity of the public through supporting fundraising events such as this, buying things at the charity shops and volunteering at the hospice.’

The event, which is sponsored by law firm Appleby, has raised more than £92,000 for the hospice in the last five years.

The aim was to run for 15 hours during the month – an average of 30 minutes a day – in whatever way suits the individual’s lifestyle and fitness levels.

Mrs De Carteret said everyone had their own motivations for taking part, with a mix of first-timers and fundraising veterans who do all of the ‘30 days’ challenges.

‘Some people this year, as always, have dedicated their running to people they have lost or who have used the hospice and it makes it very poignant for them to take part,’ she said,

This year’s series of challenges also included a month of walks, a month of cycle rides and a month of swims.

‘As always, we look to evolve our events, get more people taking part and we may look at family runs for next year for less days or less distance,’ said Mrs De Carteret.

‘We are always open to new ideas so please get in touch if you have any thoughts about how we can improve this event or other new events.’
