Staff worked through the night to cope with water damage after a heat exchanger unit above the theatres failed.

They were all shut at around 5pm, with two patients having to be safely taken back to the ward from operations.

The fault has been fixed.

As at 1pm today theatres one and two were back in action having been deep cleaned and re-commissioned.

The Theatre in Day Patient Unit is being held as an emergency theatre for any obstetric cases until at least 6pm this evening.

All four theatres will be back in action for all planned admissions which commence at 7am tomorrow.

HSC had to postpone six elective surgeries and six cases in the Day Patient Unit.
