Hundreds of people attended the Guernsey Property & Construction Awards 2018 on Thursday to recognise individuals, companies and projects over the past year.

Hosted by motorsport duo Andy and Seb Priaulx, the event at Beau Sejour also raised £8,100 for the Priaulx Premature Baby Foundation through a charity auction.

The engineering project of the year was named as the hanging of Joey, the iconic Trislander aircraft, at Oatlands.

Miles Pengelly of JG Architecture received the rising star accolade, while Chris Bound of Collas Crill received the lifetime achievement award.

Rock Commercial won the property agent of the year category, while the Guernsey Housing Association’s Steve Williams received the construction professional of the year award.

DHS was named as industry supplier of the year, while AFM and Savills picked up the award for innovation for a joint project using a helicopter to raise a chiller unit.

Julie Todd, managing director of Collaborate Communications, which organise the event, said: ‘Every year I continue to be astounded at the depth and breadth of talent a small island like Guernsey has to offer within the property and construction sectors. Whilst there are always economic and logistical challenges to island life, the skills we have on Guernsey are many.’

She added: ‘It is heart-warming to see so many young people taking on these skills and thriving. All the professionals here tonight are to be applauded for their sterling efforts.’

During the evening, stand-up comedian Jake Lambert entertained the audience.

Attendees also participated in a karting competition, where guests could pitch themselves against a time set by Seb Priaulx at the start of the evening in a karting simulator.

The awards, now in their fourth year, celebrate the achievements of Guernsey’s property and construction sectors.

Public nominations are invited throughout each summer and a judging panel consisting of industry professionals uses their knowledge and information supplied on the nomination forms to decide a winner in each category.
