Flood closes Mint until the new year

FLOODING caused by a burst pipe has led to the closure of Mint Brasserie at Bruce Russell Gold, Silversmiths & Jewellers in St Saviour’s.

Published
Mint at Bruce Russell's is closed until the new year because of a flood in the kitchen, When it reopens in 2019 it will have a new name and new tenants.

And the former leaseholder is moving on to take over at The Last Post pub.

Mint is owned by the Russell family and Simon Russell said that it is hoped to reopen in January.

‘There was a burst pipe in the kitchen and that’s being dried out,’ he said. ‘The work’s not due to be finished until mid-December.’

He said the business, which will open with a new name, is looking for a new leaseholder.

The former one, Tomas Gudelis, and his business partner and chef Rene Bisson have been at Mint since soon after it opened in 2012, but have moved on.

They took over the lease at The Last Post in St Andrew’s this week.

‘We’re going to try bringing the patisserie side of Mint to The Last Post,’ said Mr Gudelis.

He said that the kitchen will be closed until new equipment can be installed to cater for the planned increased range of food to be sold.

‘We’re going to offer afternoon tea and morning coffee, things like that,’ he said. Until recently, The Last Post was managed by Linda Leslie, but she left recently.

The pub is owned by R. W. Randall Ltd, whose managing director, Ian Rogers, said Mrs Leslie left nearly two weeks ago.

‘I am informed that she has travelled to the UK,’ he said.

Mr Rogers was not able to provide any further information about why Mrs Leslie might have left.

The pub was closed for a short time, but a member of staff stood in ahead of Mr Gudelis and Mr Bisson taking over the lease.
