First of Beaucette’s barge homes is here

A BARGE destined to become a house boat in Beaucette Marina arrived in the island last week – by boat.

The 70ft luxury craft was brought to St Peter Port by Alderney Shipping’s MV Valiant from Poole and will be taken to the marina when wind and sea conditions permit.

Beaucette manager Ricky Stephens said the delivery of the wide-beam barge was part of longer term plans for the marina complex.

‘We have some exciting plans in development which will be announced in due course,’ he said.

Plans to offer a limited number of moored barges as homes were revealed by Beaucette at the start of the year.

Mr Stephens said at the time that there were plans for six berths for house boats, but that number could rise to 20 if there was demand.

While the barges will have an engine and be capable of moving under their own power, they are intended to remain in situ at Beaucette.
