Deputy Peter Ferbrache is one of three States members who have founded The 2020 Association with former Islanders Association executive committee chairman Harvey Marshall.

A NEW political association promising 'a better vision for Guernsey' has been set up by ex-members of the Islanders Association's executive committee.

The 2020 Association will be looking to recruit candidates to stand under its banner for the 2020 election, but like the other group it has denied that it is a political party.

It has been set up by Deputies Peter Ferbrache and Joe Mooney with Harvey Marshall, who were all on the executive committee of the Islanders Association, and Deputy Jan Kuttelwascher.

In the wake of the trio's departure from the executive committee, Mr Marshall said that they were approached by many people who said they were sorry they had gone and if tehy would set up another group.

'We are pleased to announce that The 2020 Association is the result,' he said.

Like the Islanders Association, 2020 said that it will not be a political party.

A new website has been launched at www.2020.gg with along with its main goal cites its principles as 'competence, accountability and transparency'.

'Although there are some bright stars, it is our confirmed view that the present States is one of the worst ever,' said Mr Marshall.

'It is only when one examines the quality of many of the members of the States, by listening to their debates, and noting the sheer incompetence of some of the decisions taken, that one realises that if this situation continues the island will simply descend ever more speedily into being an economically stultified backwater; a result of not promptly and efficiently addressing vital issues such as connectivity and economic development, and being hampered by complacency and inadequacy.'
