Although this is a problem throughout the year, head of corporate engagement Dawn Gallienne said it was particularly bad over the Christmas period.

‘Normally what people say is that they had a handful of things to post and they accidentally put the wrong ones in and left the right ones with addresses on at home,’ she said.

‘Some people know as soon as they’ve done it.

‘It does happen all year round, but obviously at Christmas time you get more of it because people are posting more cards.’

In a bid to help deliver the mail, the team at Guernsey Post have shared a post on social media asking people to come forward if they believe they may be behind some of the undeliverable items.

‘Guernsey is so brilliant for things like this,’ said Mrs Gallienne.

‘It is such a local community, everyone seems to know so many people and that is so helpful in identifying where the items should go.

‘There are some with a part address, which means we can figure out where they are supposed to go, but others don’t.’

‘Tagging people in social media had been really helpful in finding where they should go.

‘People can spot their children’s names or their mum’s handwriting.’

Guernsey Post said anyone who thinks they may have accidentally posted some of the cards without addresses to contact the customer services team on 711720 or visit the Envoy House reception.
