URGENT improvement is needed at the Halfway Cafe after it was rated at zero stars by food hygiene inspectors.

The owner declined to comment.

It was inspected on 17 December by a food safety officer.

Ratings are broken down into three categories.

They say that improvement is needed in handling of food, the cleanliness and condition of facilities was generally satisfactory, but the systems in place to ensure that food sold is safe to eat and that staff know about food safety needed urgent improvement.

La Grande Mare Hotel, Indian Cottage, The Halfway Cafe, Bordage Bites, Good Earth Chinese Takeaway and The Venture Inn were all given one star ratings in November and were told that major improvements were necessary.

Indian Cottage was reassessed on 17 December and received a four star rating deeming it ‘good’.

La Grande Mare Hotel was reassessed on 13 December and given a ‘generally satisfactory’ three star rating, as was The Venture Inn.

Good Earth has yet to be reassessed so its one star rating is still standing.

This month, the Indoor Sports Centre at Hougue du Pommier was also given a one star rating.

A spokesman for Environmental Health said that there had been an increase in inspections over the last two months.
