The theme of ‘How To Flourish’ was presented by Shona McFarlane, who is part of Chamber’s health and wellness industry group. Corporates and individual Chamber members were invited to fill in a brief questionnaire on elements of wellbeing and life satisfaction. They heard that stress at work and a lack of focus on making time for self-care and positive activities are taking a heavy toll on many managers and employees.

McFarlane, who is a wellbeing and resilience coach, emphasised the importance of identifying positive elements in everyday life – whether at work or in home life.

The gathering, of around 40 people, also included free advice and samples from health practitioners such as Grace Galliott from the Natural Health Clinic in St Martin’s, Karen Jacobsen from the Chiropractic and Massage Clinic, who was showcasing naturally-sourced essential oils, Sophie Shand, nutritionist and Jo Henton of Shen Guernsey.

Chamber’s in-house health and nutrition expert, Daniel White, also spoke to those attending about his 31-day transformation programme.

Chamber president Barrie Baxter said the event was an exciting innovation for Chamber as part of its restructure and engagement through specific industry groups. ‘Health and wellness is a pivotal part of being able to make the most of home life and work life.

‘Chamber has committed to creating and enabling an ongoing programme of mental and physical health for its 18,000 members who are interested in coming along to the year’s various events on this important topic.’

The organisation, which has some 600 corporate members, will be devising a diverse range of wellbeing initiatives to reflect this growing sector and its increasing importance in the lives of islanders. Chamber will also partner with Health Connections Guernsey. A spring health event is being planned and a talk on the positives of ageing will also be presented.

n Guernsey Chamber has been delighted by the speed of membership renewals for 2019 and would invite any corporates or individuals considering becoming a member to email membership@guernsey for more details.
