Owned by the same family since 1899, the department store was on Guernsey’s High Street during the German Occupation.

Company director Jonathan Creasey said they were proud to be part of such an important day in Guernsey’s history.

‘As it’s our 120th anniversary this year, my family and the department store were around on 9 May 1945 and we are pleased to help tell the story of such an historic event,’ he said.

With Liberation Day fast approaching, work is under way to confirm plans for this year’s commemorative celebrations and organisers have said they are working to involve as many local clubs and businesses as possible to make the event truly special. It is hoped that through the Hero Sponsor initiative businesses will get involved with the day’s festivities by sponsoring certain areas or activities.

Head of marketing and events for Education, Sport & Culture Nikki Symons said it was pleased that such a long-standing business in the community was working with them to help make this Liberation Day as brilliant as possible.

‘With such a milestone anniversary for them this year, it’s great to have them on board,’ she said.

This year marks the 74th anniversary of the Channel Islands being liberated and, following findings from a survey on previous Liberation Days, is set to feature more activities to cater to all ages.

Education president Matt Fallaize said that the Liberation Day Committee were working closely with EC Events to create a day of events in line with what islanders wanted.

‘We want to ensure that we both commemorate and celebrate our national day and make it more memorable for the people of Guernsey,’ he said.

Traditional events such as the parade, church service and cavalcade are all set to return this year and new attractions will also be taking place throughout the day.
