Principal hopes 25mph limit will decrease reliance on car
MORE Blanchelande College pupils could be encouraged to walk and cycle to school, following the decision to introduce a 25mph limit outside the school.

The change will see the new limit imposed from Rue Frairies/Rue des Carriaux junction and along Rue de St Andre, past the school and the Little Chapel. The limit would also stretch into part of La Mare and Route des Blicqs.
Principal Robert O’Brien said the decision was good news.
‘I think it’s very re-assuring for the school and Blanchelande families that the speed limit will be the same around Blanchelande as around the other island schools,’ he said.
The school has around 375 pupils from across the island and currently many of them are driven to school.
‘There is a lot of car traffic that is going through the school and we want to reduce that,’ Mr O’Brien said.
He said they were keen to encourage pupils to arrive in other ways and were in the process of drawing up a school travel plan with Environment & Infrastructure.
‘We are hoping due to increased road safety, we can encourage students to explore cycling and walking to school,’ Mr O’Brien said.
‘We also want to make it easier to use public transport.’
Currently there are two school buses, and the number 71 bus times have been changed to fit better with the school times.
The school is also looking at encouraging more car pooling to cut the number of vehicle journeys.
