Requete suggests extending St Peter Port Harbour

ST PETER PORT Harbour could be extended by using inert waste to build a new jetty, if the States approve proposals from seven deputies who have submitted a requete.

The idea of using inert waste to extend St Peter Port Harbour has been suggested by seven deputies in a requete. This diagram shows the third and final phase of their idea, with a new 160m long jetty east of the QEII marina. (24198859)

If it goes ahead their idea could provide 70,000 square metres of land and as well as bringing in some £26m during its development, as well as having long-term strategic advantages for Guernsey..

The deputies are calling for this idea to be investigated rather than that of extending the Longue Hougue site to the south.

They want the States Trading Supervisory Board to be instructed to develop plans for a new 160m jetty attached to the eastern arm of the harbour, next to the QEII marina, although the deputies add that this could be 'such other length or depth as STSB and the Harbour Master may judge to be useful'.

The requete is signed by Deputies Neil Inder, Barry Paint, Heidi Soulsby, Lyndon Trott, Jonathan Le Tocq, Rob Prow and Al Brouard.
