Two arrested over 'Sala body' picture
TWO people have been arrested in connection with a photograph said to be of the body of Argentinian Premier League footballer Emiliano Sala was shared online.
A 48-year-old woman from Corsham and a 62-year-old man from Calne, both in Wiltshire, were taken into custody by the county's police force following enquiries by the Dorset constabulary.
Both were arrested on suspicion of unauthorised access to computer material and malicious communications. The woman was released on conditional bail and the man released under investigation.
A post mortem of Mr Sala's body was carried out on 7 February, and on 13 February Dorset Police was made aware of an image purporting to show this circulating on Twitter.
Despite it being swiftly removed, it had already been circulated extensively on social media sites.
'There is no evidence to suggest a break-in at the mortuary, and no evidence to suggest that any staff from the mortuary, or indeed any other council employees, are involved in any wrongdoing,' said a Wiltshire Police statement.
Detective Inspector Gemma Vinton, senior investigating officer, urged people to stop sharing the image: 'This is causing further distress to Emiliano's family and friends.'
Mr Sala, 28, died when the plane in which he was travelling from Nantes, the club for which he had been playing, to Cardiff, the club for which he had signed for £15m., crashed into the sea north-west of Alderney in January. His body was recovered from the wreck of the Piper Malibu aircraft on the seabed two weeks later. The body of pilot David Ibbotson has not been found.
