Road closed but no-one turns up to do the work

A ONE-WAY was in place in Braye Road for roadworks to take place this morning – the only problem being the contractor was busy working elsewhere instead.

From 9am into mid-afternoon, cars dutifully followed the diversion while nothing happened on site.

Traffic and Highways Services, a division of Environment & Infrastructure, has apologised and the work will now take place tomorrow [Wednesday] instead.

‘Braye Road was closed this morning for a period without any works being undertaken,' said Karl Guille, Director of Traffic & Highway Services.

'An error with the scheduling of works meant that the contractor which was due to begin the work was tied up with another scheduled job and work at Braye Road did not get under way.

'The road was re-opened as soon as the issue became apparent. Unfortunately, it means Braye Road will be closed tomorrow from 9am so those works can go ahead.

'The necessary road improvement work is due to be completed within a day. Traffic and Highway Services is genuinely sorry for the inconvenience this has caused. We realise road closures are frustrating at the best of times, and even more so when they are closed for longer than is absolutely necessary.’
