Islanders are being asked to keep their eyes open to try and find where the nests might be.

So far hornets have been spotted around Fort George, at the top of Le Val Des Terres, as well as at the airport around Route des Farras and around Rue des Deslisles in Castel.

People in these areas are being asked to check any outbuildings, treehouses, unused horse boxes and bird box. The nest could be as small as a tennis ball. Anyone finding anything should not remove it.

The sightings follow the end of the spring queening project, where more than 20 Asian hornet queens were caught.

Asian hornets are a threat to local wildlife and in particular local honeybees.

Anyone finding a nest should email damian.harris@gov.gg.
