Verdict due in rape and indecent assault trial
A VERDICT is expected tomorrow [Wednesday] in the trial of a 34-year-old man accused of nine counts of rape and indecent assault against the same woman.
Three charges of rape, four of indecent assault and one of an incitement to commit an act of gross indecency, are alleged to have happened when the woman was a pre-teen child.
The defendant was a teenager at the time.
The complainant is now 28 and the defendant is also accused of indecently assaulting her in 2016.
All charges were denied by the man, who has been on trial in the Royal Court since last Monday.
Reporting restrictions were put in place preventing any media coverage until after all witnesses had appeared.
After the appearance of the final two defence witnesses on Monday, Advocate Rory Calderwood summed up the case for the prosecution, after which Advocate Peter Ferbrache did so for the defence.
Judge Russell Finch is set to sum up the case to the Jurats tomorrow morning, after which they will retire to consider their verdict.
