Vale Road to shut for three weeks from Monday

VALE ROAD will shut for three weeks from Monday.

Vale Road was closed for some time last year while Guernsey Water worked on the waste water system. A new gas main was laid at that time and next week the road will close again to allow connections to that main. (25289401)

The section from the Halfway to Delancey Lane will be shut while Guernsey Gas connects homes to a new gas main.

The main was laid during the last closure of Vale Road, when Guernsey Water upgraded the waste water system.

Due to the phasing of those works, it was not possible to carry out the individual service connections at the same time.

Traffic will be diverted via Crossways, Braye Road and the Bridge in both directions.

A Traffic & Highways Services spokesman said it was strongly recommended drivers use the diversion routes as signposted.

‘Previous closures have resulted in gridlock around the lanes and road network in the Delancey area, as motorists attempt to take short-cuts through these roads,’ he said.

‘Vehicles will be unable to enter Delancey Lane from Vale Road. Additionally, Mont Morin is being resurfaced during the same time period and will be closed to all traffic, except residents of Mont Morin.’

Cyclists will be able to pass through Vale Road, but should dismount and remount either side of the works area, as signposted.

Bus route 21 will travel through the Bridge and Braye Road.

Vale Road is set to be closed until 9 August.
