It recently released details of what they want students to wear – a dark grey blazer, black trousers or pleated skirt, white shirt and a green and gold tie.

‘The introduction of both the new uniform and the names of the school and colleges are subject to the States approval of the capital funding required for the school extensions at St Sampson’s and Les Beaucamps,’ a spokesman said.

‘A timeline for their introduction will be provided following the States debate. The fund is not intended to cover the costs of new uniform in perpetuity. It is there to ensure that parents are not financially disadvantaged by having to buy new uniform for their children during the course of their secondary education when a change in uniform is required.

‘Once the uniform is introduced (and the committee has funded those items that students have been required to change following its introduction) parents will be responsible for purchasing uniform for their children as they ordinarily have been i.e. as they grow out of it or damage it. Parents who are ordinarily entitled to uniform allowance will be able to claim as normal through the Committee for Employment & Social Security.’

Education wants to call the new 11 to 18 school Lisia, while the two colleges will be Victor Hugo and de Saumarez.

It is expected to go to the States asking for £157m. to fund building work for its plans.
