Lots of waggy tails and tricks at South Show’s dog events
CROWDS gathered at St Martin’s community centre to see the island’s cutest dogs take part in an afternoon all about our fluffy friends at the South Show.
Despite the wind, the sun stayed out for Saturday afternoon’s Island Dog Training team display and the Fun Dog Show, which saw the crowd ooh and ahh as dogs of many breeds took centre stage, wagging their tails and showing their tricks.
Among the Labradors, huskies and beagles taking part in the Fun Dog Show, winner of the Best in Show went to five-month-old cotonoodle Darci, owned by Katrina Rowe.
‘We came here on the push bike, with her in the basket,’ she said.
‘With the wind in her fur, she loved it and now she thinks everyone has come to meet her. She’s really happy and has some treats and Pawsecco to celebrate winning.’
The dog’s fancy dress also saw a hilarious show of costumes for dogs, including horses and jockeys, maids, Where’s Wally and an impressive triceratops pug.
One visitor to the South Show said it was the first time they had come to the event.
‘This is fantastic,’ they said.
‘We haven’t come before and it’s brilliant, we’ve brought the kids along too and they’ve loved it, except they keep bugging me now that they want a dog. So, maybe it wasn’t such a good idea, but with all the well-behaved pooches here maybe I could be convinced.’
