In total, 94% of pupils received grades of 9 to 4 (equivalent to the old A* to C) and 41% got grades of 9 to 7 (A* to A equivalent).

Five or more passes at grades 9 to 4 (A* to C equivalent), which includes English and maths, were secured by 96% of pupils.

Sixteen-year-old Noah Purdue got four 9s, four 8s, one 7 and two 6s.

‘I’m really pleased overall,’ he said.

‘I’ve put an awful lot of effort in and a lot of my spare time was spent revising. Now I’m going to celebrate and go to the North Show.’

Sixteen-year-old Chris Bain, who achieved 11 grade 9s, said he was still feeling nervous even after opening his results.

‘I feel like it will take a while to sink in,’ he said.

‘I can’t really speak, I’m that happy.

‘I’ll be continuing with my A-levels, with the aim of going into medicine.’

At the top end, 16 students gained nine or more passes at grades 9 to 7 (A*/A equivalent) and two students achieved an impressive clean sweep of 11 passes at grade 9, something achieved by only 837 students in the whole of the UK this year or 0.1%.

Dominic Coyde was one of them and said he was super happy with his clean sweep of 12 grade 9s.

‘There’s a lot of pressure to do well, so it’s always good to say I did it,’ he said.

Principal Jenny Palmer said she was extremely happy to see everyone’s hard work pay off.

‘This set of results reflects the hard work and commitment that our Year 11 students have invested and the support they have received from our dedicated staff,’ she said.

‘I am really pleased that almost all students have achieved results which will enable them to move on to the next stage of their education.’
