One of the school’s high achievers, Jason Man, said he was pleased his results will allow him to study maths, physics and business studies at the Grammar School Sixth Form Centre in September.

‘It’s been a lot of hard work that’s definitely paid off,’ the 16-year-old said.

‘I was pretty confident before coming in but I’m so pleased with the results I got.’

Students in Years 9 and 10 also collected results from their preparation for working life qualification, English, maths and statistics exams.

‘I’m very proud of the students for their hard work and achievements,’ deputy head teacher Adrian King said.

‘48% achieved A* to C [or equivalent], including maths and English.

‘Our English department had its best year yet with a pass rate of 86% and there have been some fantastic individual results as well – one student achieved 10 A*, A and 9 grades.’

Mr King said the new GCSE format caused a bit of uncertainty but the students should be proud of what they achieved.

Leah Pipet, 16, said it had been an emotional morning, but she was happy she could pursue her passion for helping animals now her education is finished.

‘Oh my gosh, well, I was a bit overwhelmed when I got here, but now I’m so relieved with my results.

‘I’ve been working at Isabelle Vets so the next step is training to become a full-time veterinary care assistant.’

Aspiring rugby player Liv Kenneally, 15, said she was particularly happy with her physical education result.

‘I managed to get an A in PE, which I’m really excited about. I want to be either coaching or playing rugby in the future so I loved doing PE.

‘I’m starting a sports course at the College of Further Education next month.’
