Voting for the 146 nominees opened just over three weeks ago and, by the close of play on Wednesday, 17,695 votes had been cast.

This includes 17,314 cast online and 381 put through by paper voting form.

Guernsey Press editor Shaun Green said he was delighted with the number of people getting involved this year in voting for their favourite candidate.

‘We have had a brilliant response,’ he said.

‘The Pride of Guernsey awards is a celebration of amazing people who have been nominated in the island and it’s great to see so many vote for those that inspire them.

‘The whole community has got behind it completely and I’m looking forward to soon seeing who has made the shortlist, it has come around so quickly.’

There are 13 categories, including young achiever, neighbour, conservation hero, and parish champion of the year.

Islanders can vote for as many nominees as they like, but they can only cast one vote per nominee. Voting closes in just under a week’s time, at 10am on Friday 30 August.

The three most popular nominees in the each category will make up the shortlist.

A judging panel will then select the overall winners, which will be announced at a ceremony in October.
