Loganair announced that the new non-stop service will start on 23 May 2020 and run once a week on Saturdays until 5 September.

It will be operated on a 37-seater Embraer 135 aircraft and is the first time the Guernsey will be connected to the northern city by a direct air route.

The service will depart Newcastle at 9am every Saturday, arriving into Guernsey at 10.30am.

A return flight will leave at 4.30pm, arriving into Newcastle at 5.30pm.

The one-way lead in fare is £74.99, including taxes and a hold bag of up to 20kg.

The Newcastle route is the fourth direct air route to Guernsey launched by Loganair, which operated a direct summer service from Glasgow, Edinburgh and Bournemouth in summer 2019.

Loganair’s managing director Jonathan Hinkles said the company had seen growing demand for the destination since launching the first route to Guernsey from Glasgow in 2018.

'We’re now delighted to launch the first direct, non-stop route from another northern departure point.'

VisitGuernsey’s director of marketing and tourism Mike Hopkins said: 'As part of VisitGuernsey’s ongoing efforts, we’re working hard with airline and airport partners to develop new routes to the island to make Guernsey more accessible to a wider pool of prospective visitors.

'This new Newcastle service now gives the important north east England visitor market a more direct and convenient way of travelling to Guernsey.'

Economic Development committee member Deputy Joe Mooney added: 'The Committee is committed to working with regional airlines such as Loganair to achieve our aim of continually strengthening Guernsey’s air links to the UK, and we would like to than Jonathan Hinkles and the Loganair team for their ongoing support and confidence in Guernsey.'
