The 2019 Alderney Angling Festival got off to a memorable start at the weekend as Alderney builder Jamie Sugden weighed in this specimen 48lb tope before releasing it alive back into Braye harbour. Over 80 anglers are taking part in the the 34th annual gathering of anglers mainly from the Channel islands as well as some from the UK, who compete to land the best specimen in a wide variety of classes and there are many hundreds of pounds of prize money at stake. Anglers are judged against local shore records and as many fish as possible are returned alive. There is a £3,000 prize for anyone breaking a British record, £1,000 for a Channel Islands record and £500 for an Alderney record. The event goes on all week. (Picture by David Nash, 26125376)
