FOOD AND DRINK at Guernsey Airport will now be served from three-star food hygiene rated premises after a re-inspection upped it from an initial one-star grading.

The rating from the first inspection, on 8 October, meant urgent action was needed in a number of areas. They included food handling, cleanliness of facilities and general standards.

Early teething issues were blamed for the establishment's original one-star rating.

The facilities were reassessed on 17 October when conditions were said to have improved in a number of areas.

The management of food safety was the area in most urgent need of improvement according to Environmental Health, with checks needing to be put in place to ensure that food sold was safe to eat.

That area is now said to be ‘generally satisfactory’ and cleanliness is now rated as ‘good’. The one-star rating and subsequent reassessment of three stars comes in the first months of trading for a new operator at the airport.

Bailiwick Bar & Kitchen, owned by Caterleisure, a UK-based catering provider, took over the facilities in June.

All of the food hygiene ratings for establishments in the Bailiwick are listed at www.gov.gg/fhis.

All but two businesses in Guernsey are rated with at least three stars, with many achieving four or five.
