Age Concern’s fuel fund is now operational and people can apply for a voucher of £165 redeemable on any fuel type.

The fund is not restricted to Age Concern members. It is open to all pensioners and applications should be decided upon within a week of submission. The fund is available until 1 May.

A spokesman for Age Concern said: ‘During the months, from 1 November until 1 May, we operate a fuel fund specifically to assist any Guernsey pensioners who struggle to pay their fuel bills.

‘The application process is not too intrusive. All we ask is that an applicant fills out a form, which you can do in the comfort of your own home. We judge every case on its merits and reach a decision as quickly as we can, usually within a week. If the application is successful, we will issue a voucher £165 that can cover any fuel – electricity, gas, oil or solid fuel.’

The charity also says that if that voucher is not sufficient then a further application can be made and additional support will be considered.

  • To apply for the fund call Hunter Adam on 257311 or David Inglis on 263228.
