MORE than 120 applications have been received for the 73 attaché volunteer roles during the 2021 NatWest Island Games.

After launching an appeal for attachés in September the team have been amazed by the volume of applications and the support shown by the island.

An information exchange evening was recently held where each applicant had the opportunity to learn more about the role and underwent an informal interview with members of the volunteer team.

‘We were overwhelmed with the response received following our attaché recruitment campaign,' said Wayne Bulpitt, director of volunteering.

‘This is the first specific team of volunteers we need to secure ahead of the VIP visit by the competing islands to Guernsey next summer. By then each approved attaché will need to have been fully trained and confident with their role

‘With our commitment to include as wide a range of individuals as possible, and nearly 1,000 roles to fill, we wanted a process that was of value to individuals, inclusive but enabling us to fit the right people to the right roles. We have been delighted with the feedback to our initial events where over 70 applicants attended two sessions.’

A further information exchange and informal interview session is planned for those who were unable to attend the initial evening with the aim to finalise the attaché recruitment by the end of December.

The volunteer team is now looking for individuals to fill several key volunteer roles within the various organising teams.

These include:

  • Pre-games administration. These roles require someone who is organised, efficient and enjoys admin to assist in looking after the records of 1,000 volunteers and 3,500 participants and officials.
  • Clothing co-ordinator. All volunteers and officials will be provided with kit that includes several items of clothing, which needs to be organised, ordered and distributed efficiently.
  • Project managers/officers.
  • Sustainability officer.
