The group, which is based further up Ruettes Brayes from the former hotel, confirmed that the purchase had gone through last Tuesday. The site was bought from Braye Lodge Ltd.

‘The MSG has leased car parking on the site since 2007,’ an MSG spokesperson said.

‘The MSG confirmed the reason for the purchase was to protect the parking which MSG use for its support staff based at its Alexandra House and Mill House buildings.’

The sale included the hotel and the cottage on the site, however the MSG did not state what its plans were for the structures.

A Health & Social Care spokesperson said: ‘HSC can confirm that the main building at the Braye Lodge site has been used for keyworker accommodation, including nurses. It has not been used for this or any other HSC purpose since 2015.

‘The MSG briefed HSC of their intention to acquire the site and confirmed that the purpose of this purchase was to secure the car parking required for their staff who work at the nearby Alexandra and Mill House sites.’

The site has been identified as a housing target area. Two years ago a development framework was drawn up for the site, which suggested that it be used for houses. It said between 10 and 20 homes could fit on the site, which straddles the St Peter Port/St Martin’s border.
