Pollet shop voted best Christmas window display
IT WAS a surprise to the Beauty Rooms Salon to win this year’s best decorated window competition.
Organised as part of the Christmas lights display, there were 2,233 votes cast for the favourite Christmas-themed window in Town, with the Beauty Rooms in the Pollet well out in front out of 39 businesses which registered.
The salon’s owner, Ella Buddle, said it was a joy to win.
‘We really just wanted to do something enticing. We appreciate everyone who voted,’ she said.
The competition, which had lapsed some years ago after being run by Roy Sarre for many years, was relaunched by charity St Peter Port Christmas Lights Appeal last year, using the same silver trophy, as a way of enriching the Town’s Christmas spirit.
Charity chairwoman and trustee Jax Robin said the Beauty Rooms window shouted Christmas.
‘Its hundreds of twinkling lights especially drew you in at night time when Christmas lights are seen at their best,’ she said.
‘I have seen a video of it on their Facebook page and it really sparkled.’
She added that the idea was to increase footfall and local purchasing.
‘The competition is very important for St Peter Port and in the future we hope that more and more businesses will enter,’ she said.
‘We want it to encourage more and more shoppers to come in to view them and vote for their favourite, so as to keep our town vibrant and support its economic growth.’
Last year’s competition was judged by a small team who had been part of the Accessible Town Event. However, this year it was open to the public to vote.
Guernsey Retail Group vice-chairman Natalie Maides said the window added to the festive fun available in St Peter Port.
‘We’re delighted for Ella and the team at the Beauty Rooms to be this year’s Christmas window competition winner,’ she said.
‘The Beauty Rooms have done a fantastic job against some tough competition.
‘The window is beautiful and definitely adds a touch of fairy light magic to the Pollet.’
The competition will return next year during the first two weeks of December.
