Vale parish constable Bill Cohu said he hoped that a roundabout and dome would be installed by Easter.

There are currently climbing frames, swings, slides and a sand pit at the site.

‘Apart from the swings, nothing else at the moment moves,’ said Mr Cohu.

Another intention was to replace the current rubber flooring, which looks like tarmac as this was starting to break up.

A figure was included in the remede each year to cover work on the play area and a parish improvement fund was there to fall back on if required.

The area was previously part of L’Ancresse Common before the common’s council ceded it to the parish for use as a children’s play area.

‘This is the only playground in the parish and there’s a big upkeep,’ said Mr Cohu.

‘We’re lucky and grateful that Andrew Pouteaux organises volunteers and corporate groups who come and help with things such as cleaning and painting equipment.’

Quite often during the summer it could be difficult to cut the grass there as so many people used the play area.

‘It’s a bit rough and ready but people like it as it is. You could fill the rabbit holes in but they would have dug them again by tomorrow.’

The most recent piece of equipment was a wooden climbing frame that was installed about two years, which Mr Cohu said was very popular with the youngsters.

The play area was inspected and certified annually by a UK expert.

Mr Cohu said he would like to remind people that dogs are not allowed in the play area.

‘I can’t say that we’ve a problem with dog mess but dogs still need to wee and will put their scent around, which is not good in a children’s play area and particularly on the equipment,’ he said.
