Ivah-Jean is first Guernsey baby of 2020s
NEW YEAR brings new life as a baby girl was born on New Year’s Day.
Parents Amy and Alex Hallett were brimming with happiness to be able to hold their new daughter.
Mother and baby are both doing well, with some sleepy yawns from the first baby of the decade, Ivah-Jean Hallett.
‘Alex got sent home at 10pm, and then got called at 10.40pm to say the baby was coming. He arrived around 10 minutes later and at 11.12pm she was born,’ said the new mother, Amy.
‘She was born a day late, and since the start of my pregnancy we were hoping she would be the first baby of the year,’ said Mrs Hallett.
‘I’ve been saying so the whole time anyway,’ said Mr Hallett.
The three of them all were quite tired and overwhelmed, as to be expected, but the pair were delighted at the new addition.
‘At seven pounds three ounces she’s healthy,’ said Mrs Hallett, ‘the labour wasn’t too long and thankfully she wasn’t too big!’
Midwives were relieved to have played their part in delivering baby Ivah-Jean.
Annabel Nicholas, head of midwifery and paediatrics, said: ‘It is lovely to welcome the first Guernsey baby of the new decade.’
The Lions Club of Guernsey presented the family with gifts yesterday, including a Lion’s money box, a 2020 diary and a Creasey’s voucher.
Tony Corbin of the Lion’s Club said: ‘Creasey’s were very generous and doubled the amount on our original voucher purchase for the newly-made parents.’
‘We are a century-old charity which raise money to help people locally, and are the largest international service club in the UK with over 900 members,’ Mr Corbin said.
As well as helping community members individually, the Lion’s Club has built services such as the Mind Centre, and organised Winter Wonderland, and driving instruction services for those with disabilities.
