Age Concern mail drop as it starts search for volunteers
AGE CONCERN Guernsey is undertaking an island-wide mail drop starting today to increase awareness of what it does and provide an opportunity for individuals or businesses to get involved in helping older people in our community.
Chairman Dave Inglis, pictured, said the group was seeking people to get involved in micro-volunteering.
He said it is a simple idea – that people are more likely to volunteer their time in short and convenient bite-sized chunks – and turns it into a new approach to community action.
It offers volunteers a series of easy tasks that can be done anytime, anywhere, on their own terms and also enables people who might be excluded from traditional volunteering to participate.
‘So can you give us two hours of your time a week, which would be invaluable in helping us maintain a service to our 250-plus members – that’s all it takes,’ said Mr Inglis.
‘The mail drop highlights a series of roles which are so important to maintaining a consistent service that is not only fun and enjoyable, but more significantly important in combating loneliness.’
