This year marks 100 years since Guernsey Police officially came into being, an event head of law enforcement Ruari Hardy believed was worth commemorating.

‘Such a milestone has to be recognised and is both a celebration and a time to reflect upon the years of service to our community and say a thank you to all who have played their part in policing over 100 years,’ he said.

Mr Hardy said the centenary was a perfect opportunity to look forward to the future with confidence and strength, as well remember the past and praised the talent and commitment within the force.

There will be a static display at the Motorsports Sea Front Sunday in July, and a ‘tweet on the beat’ event will take place during the weekend of centenary celebrations.

Throughout the year, the police will be stoking nostalgia by posting pictures of historical significance across social media.

Mr Hardy was delighted Dame Cressida had accepted the invitation to inspect the parade, and he thanked Lt-Governor and the Bailiff for their support.

Dame Cressida is the first woman to be the commissioner of the Met.
