Fire, police and ambulance attended after the car hit a wall.

Firefighters had to cut the roof off the vehicle to get at the driver, who was the only person in the car.

He was taken to the Emergency Department by St John Ambuance.

The driver contacted the Guernsey Press this afternoon to say that the crash was caused when he came upon another car on the wrong side of the road: 'There was a massive line of traffic coming from Beau Sejour,' he said.

'A red car pulled out from the traffic impatiently way before it was safe to turn down Fosse Andre.

'I was going around that bend, they hadn’t looked at the road to check it was safe.

'I had no choice but to hit the wall instead of crashing straight into them.'

He said he was knocked out by the crash and was unconscious when the emergency services arrived.

The other car drove off and he is now hoping to track down the driver.

The road was closed while the services dealt with the incident, and it was reopened at about 10am.
