Mr Gordon-Brown, 68, died at his home in Canada on Monday 10 February.

As the owner of Sark Electricity, he had been involved in an ongoing dispute with the Chief Pleas for increasing the cost of electricity on the island to as high as 85p per unit.

A celebration of Mr Gordon-Brown’s life is being held on Friday in Alberta, Canada.

The family confirmed his death in a statement provided by the funeral home in Canada that is conducting his ceremony.

‘David Gordon Brown, our beloved husband, father, Gramps, and friend went peacefully home to be with his Heavenly Father on Monday, February 10, 2020 surrounded by his loving family,’ it read.

‘In his life time, David was extremely generous with his time, finances, resources, and even his courage.’

He is survived by his wife Carolyn of 45 years and his three children and eight grandchildren.

In January, Mr Gordon-Brown sent a letter to Sark people in which he said he would not be able to lower the price because doing so would ignore the costs of running the company and would potentially mean it could go bankrupt.

He threatened legal action after being instructed to drop the price to no more than 54p per unit by the electricity price commissioner.

It is not clear what will happen from here.
