A sandstorm from the Sahara caused serious disruption at airports in the Canary Islands.

A news report on the disruption showed a fleeting glimpse of an Aurigny aircraft through the sand.

Aurigny does not operate commercial flights to the island, but an airline spokesman confirmed the aircraft was theirs.

‘We can confirm that this aircraft is G-VZON and it is currently in Gran Canaria having its pre-sale check, prior to its sale to ATR,’ they said.

‘After years of flying in the Channel Islands it will have been used to low visibility, but the orange fog would have been a new occurrence.’

Aurigny has moved on several ATRs after bringing in three new aircraft with ‘fog-busting’ technology.
