Community Foundation makes it easier to apply for a grant
THE funding application process for the Guernsey Community Foundation has been revised to allow online submissions and smaller minimum grants.
Coinciding with the foundation’s 10th anniversary, the changes include the appointment of a new honorary adviser to help charities navigate the application process.
The previous minimum grant was £10,000, but now charities can apply for grants starting from £5,000.
‘The new-look grants programme is all about helping more charities by making the application process easier and by paying out smaller as well as larger amounts,’ GCF chief executive Jim Roberts said.
Seven GCF members are on the grants panel to consider applications.
Two new panel members are welcomed – Ben Jones and Susie Gallienne – as well as honorary advisor Yvonne Hodder.
Grants panel chairman John Renouf said: ‘Yvonne will provide valuable support to organisations. She’ll meet with charities and help them with their application by offering more practical advice.’
The foundation’s grants programme can access £1.3m. of funding each year.
Any non-profit organisation or registered charity whose activities benefit the local community can apply.
‘We want to maximise applicants’ chances of success and make the process as user-friendly as possible,’ said Mr Renouf.
‘Yvonne’s professional background in project management will be of great benefit to charities when applying for funding.’
Previously Mrs Hodder worked on large infrastructure projects and helped with tendering.
Mrs Hodder said: ‘I am really excited about my appointment and am looking forward to working with and supporting the island’s hardworking charities in drafting their applications for funding.’
Applications can be made all year round via the foundation’s website.
‘Often this can be a daunting process, especially if you have never applied for a grant before. Hopefully having someone to chat to who has been through the process successfully several times will be a help and encourage more organisations to apply.’
